Strong summer grower and a wind tolerant climber (when tendrils are wound around a trellis). Tip vines to encourage outward growth. Young tender pods & immature seeds are eaten as a fresh bean. Leaves are eaten fresh or dried, as spinach. Short days trigger flowering. The delicious flowers are best eaten raw in salads. Mature seeds must be boiled before eating to breakdown a toxic cyanogenic glycoside in their coat.
