🌿 The Sunny Honey

🌿 The Sunny Honey Myrtle — Melaleuca laetifica

About 20 years ago, this little shrub from the Kalbarri sandplain region took my fancy. Relatively unknown in cultivation, it has become one of the most successful plantings in our dryland native area here in Waggrakine.

Growing about 1 metre high, it’s dense and full of flowers, with a broad vase shape that seems to lift gently off the ground. It deserves a place in more waterwise sandplain gardens, both in town and out on rural properties.

We know it grows wonderfully on our neutral Banksia sandplain soils, without irrigation once established, but we’d love to hear how it performs on the alkaline sands closer to the coast.

We have about 20 plants left. Keen to try a few and let us know how they’re growing in a year’s time?

We’re coming to the Platform Markets tomorrow!

Yesterday we robbed the bees again and are in need of more jars to recycle. Can you help? 🍯♻️

We’re looking for jars with this shaped neck, ideally around this size. If you have any clean ones sitting around at home, bring them along to the markets — we’d love to reuse them!

Hey everybody! 🌿

Hey everybody! 🌿

Nina and I (Julie) are coming to the Platform Markets in Geraldton this Sunday!
What should we bring?

Have a look at our website and nursery list at www.drylands.org.au, and if there’s something in particular you’d like us to bring along, let me know!

We’ll have plants - some exquisite natives, some of our heirloom vege, seeds and honey 🍯 — some of which we robbed from the hives today!

Looking forward to catching up with old friends and some new ones!
